Travelling can be a fantastic experience, opening up new opportunities and broadening our horizons. However, it often brings with it a fair share of stressors that can quickly turn an exciting trip into a taxing journey...

As a Coach and Hypnotherapist, I’m keenly aware of how quickly stress can build up during travel so here’s how I stayed calm and stress-free using mindfulness—and how you can, too.

1. When Delays Hit

Delays happen, but frustration doesn’t have to. Pause, take a few deep breaths, and focus on the present instead of what 'should' be happening. This can stop stress in its tracks.

Quick Tip: Try 4-7-8 breathing: inhale 4 counts, hold for 7, exhale for 8.

2. Combat Fatigue

Travelling while unwell? Check in with your body. Do a quick body scan, relax any tense areas, and give yourself permission to rest where you can.

3. Manage Noise Overload

Noise can fray your nerves. Anchor your attention to something steady—like your breath, or listen to calming music through headphones.

4. Tame Connection Anxiety

Worried about missing your stop? Visualise things going smoothly. Imagining a calm journey can ease anxiety and help you stay relaxed.

5. End on a Positive, Stress- Free Note

After a long day, think of three good things about the trip—a helpful stranger, a scenic view, or simply making it through.

Mindful travel isn’t about controlling the journey but staying calm within it. Next time you’re on the go, try these quick tips and make any trip a little easier.

Safe travels!
